Cat and Eilir Day 9

This multi-media project started with Eilir getting a piece of homework from school to design a cover for their Christmas carol night programme. Eilir came up with some drawings (pictured) but was not that fussed on them or the activity.
He was however loving the rehearsals for the concert itself and was forever singing them at home. A particular favourite was 'Silent Night', which he desperately wanted to learn how to play on the piano. Luckily he sat his first piano exam at the beginning of December, so the pressure was off at the end of term, and I could ask his piano teacher to teach him 'Silent Night' during his last two lessons. He is very proud of this and plays it for anyone visiting.
The video is our duet - he finds it too difficult to play and sing at the same time - so apologies in advance for my singing! We've been singing it together for weeks.

Johana and boys Day 9

We had 4 cardboard boxes I picked up in the sale last year and gave the boys 2 each to paint.  No theme, just fun and colourful blobbing and a long time drying by the fire afterwards.  The plan is to make chocolate truffles and other trinkets to put inside...

Steph and G Day 9

G planted 3 rosemary plants in our tiny front strip of soil when she was a toddler, and now they are out of control, we decided to make a Christmas wreath out of it.  I had it all worked out,,. we got 3 coat hangers and taped them together, we cut lengths of the rosemary, it turned out to have got very woody so it became my job to try and cut through the trunk like stems, when I came back in the house, G had got tinsel and wound it round, I was getting sandwich ties, and string, when I returned, G had fashioned a complete wreath, I am not sure how it is holding together but it is, G says she just tucked it all in, it is kind of rustic, it looks good.

Adeola and boys Day 9

Really needed to get this done today since tomorrow is the last day of school. We managed 5. Babi practiced his scissor skills (I have to say that I was very impressed with the cutting he did on a bit of A4 – except, that bit of A4 had Roti’s drawing on it – yikes, more tears). Lots of sleepy boys today; Lo was on the ps3, Roti was happy to help but too tired for the activity. Is it normal for a 4 year old to be a perfectionist at drawing a snowman? I love his work, but he wasn’t happy. I ended-up doing the drawings but he helped with cutting them out. Roti needed a hug and his bedtime story about blind burrowing snakes. Awww, sweet dreams boys.

Silver and girls Day 9

Paper Chains!
A traditional craft at this time of year and a great way of using excess wrapping paper or even your children's drawings!  I started out by taking some sheets of different coloured paper and cutting them into strips about one inch wide.  Then I unleashed Nim loose with the glue, while I had a wibble in the kitchen with a cup of coffee.

So easy to do and it kept her entertained for a good half an hour.  The only reason she stopped is that we ran out of paper!  They can be made to whatever length you like, in whatever paper you have to hand.
