Crackers

Another project that required a bit of time to collect the required materials (this time toilet roll innards and the middle section of a roll of wrapping paper).   By Sunday we had enough to make four crackers.

We filled the middle roll with a chocolate bear and a joke (provided by Eilir and copied down on scraps of wrapping paper by me). We then rolled this up together with two additional rolls either side in wrapping paper (ends of roll and some recycled from last year), Eilir holding, me taping. Using wrapping ribbon we secured the middle section, tying one end each on every cracker. There was a pretty equal division of labour on this activity, we even rolled them up together!

Eilir liked the smaller, neater crackers best (the ones made from the wrapping paper roll, which was a narrower tube).  The same evening we were visiting some friends, so decided to take two with us for pulling. The first pulled easily (Eilir winning), the second was more like a tug-of-war with Eilir's friend eventually gaining the upper hand and Eilir landing on his bum!

Johana and boys Day 8

We're rubbish at doing cards, ok can't blame the kids, I'm rubbish at doing cards, but we managed two for T's teachers. The first T did was a selection of Christmas Trees, in Welsh / yn Cymraeg - Coeden Nadolig, all fully decked and plugged into the mains.  The second Eira dyn - Snow man.  I actually suggested Taryn wrote 'Eira dyn' on top just to clarify that it was picture of a fat snowman and not his teacher (who is actually quite slender)!

Adeola and boys Day 8

It was Grammy’s birthday and wrapping her gift made us feel all creative. I gave the orders, we used Lo’s fantastic drawings, Roti did a first class job at cutting them all out and Babi ‘helped’ with the tape and twine and the not-quite-dry-yet pinecones. Roti got a bit scissor happy and Lo got a bit precious with his work and this session ended in tears. It was past their bedtime too L

Christmas Crackers

You guessed it, another kit!  Though you can make crackers from scratch I would recommend using a kit as the "snap" part that goes inside can prove very difficult to track down and buy on their own.

Nim started by decorating the outside of the crackers, using stickers and crayons.  Next she glued in the "snaps" and added the joke & hats.  She then rolled them up and I helped her to slot them into place to form a tube.

Nim finished them off by adding gold ribbon to each end of the main body, it both helps keep the items inside the cracker and looks pretty too.

Christmas Biscuits
These are for the school Christmas disco, experience shows no matter how subtly you may flavour the bakes, selling wise, it is all about the icing.  ready to roll black, green and red icing and mix it with water in a bowl white icing for background.  G needed 2 shots to get the white icing right, disbelieving such little water would mix with the powdery icing sugar . My nanna famously made Christmas cakes every year with the icing puddled round the plate and nothing left on top.  G perfected 'coating a spoon' and then it was all systems go, bit like play dough really  and silver balls for extra christmassy bling.
