Hayley and Gabe Day 2

So after a fortnight of "feeding" the cake, we made it to decorating! At 7:50am this morning! Gabe helped roll the icing but oddly didn't want to get his hands covered in red food colouring!

Our vision was Santa in The chimney! We think it turned out alright! :-)  Not sure we want to eat it though.... Only I know that the cake underneath is a bit burnt!

Off to stuff a turkey now! Xxxx

Kora and boys Day 2

The impromptu ones are always the best.... Caught Noah scribbling furiously and then cutting with the concentration of a 6 year old cutting out a Christmas stocking! The irony is that if I'd asked him to sit and create a giant stocking (complete with string hook attachment!), he would have instantly decided to build a lego creation, study his football cards or have a poo! I love little boys! It's all about seizing the (very seldom) moment!!

Silver and girls Day 2

I started by weighing out the ingredients while the kids bickered over who was going to have the biggest spoon, *insert eye roll here*.  They then creamed the butter & sugar, added the flour, mixed it all together and then started asking if they could lick the spoons yet!

After they had made the mix into a dough, I added some green food colouring to really bring the tree look out.  The kids then rolled out the dough and cut out the shapes.  Once the biscuits were cool we made some glace icing out of icing sugar mixed with hot water.  As we were enveloped in a cloud of icing sugar due to the kids furious mixing, it reminded me why I don't like using icing sugar when baking with them, you get left with a sticky mess and that stuff gets everywhere!

Once the "trees" were iced and stacked we added some of those little edible metal balls to look like baubles and done.

Johana and boys Day 2

More Cardboard! A very basic, classic box-to-boat transformation using some of the packaging that keeps on arriving this time of year.  D's older brother is all about engineering and keeps trying to add bits of found metal to the boat to make a light, engine etc! Squint your eyes to note the slightly festive star T has drawn on the junk mail flag...we're attempting to get seasonal! :)

Adeola and boys Day 2

Okay so, we’re using a massive cardboard box that adorned our front room for too long, to make a Christmas tree. Luckily the boys chose to paint it white rather than (ever)green because I only have black and white acrylics at the moment. Got paint on their clothes… tried to wash it off but…sigh. At least there are no little painted footprints on the floor.

The patterning was a bit messy and not always supervised. Babi grabbed a paintbrush every time I attempted to do ‘detail’ and smeared most of my circles and lines eager to help. Another lesson to not be precious about anything in this project. Thanks for the reminder little man xxx
